Moorland Rd Part 1

This trail begins outside The Velo Lounge,, Moorland Rd, Bath UK.
 
Chapter one

30 -31 Velo Lounge

30 and 31 Moorland Road is currently the Velo Lounge, and a great place to eat your dinner. It serves soft drinks, wine and beer, as well as cakes, sandwiches and hot snacks.There is a relaxed atmosphere, with chairs, tables and sofas over two floors, with toilets upstairs.
From 1900-1910 No.30 was a tailor and compositor and until 1920, was a grocer and provision merchant. In 1920 the shop became a milliners and then in 1930 it was drapers, they stayed for 30 years. A toy dealer took over in 1960.
No.31 started off as a general dealer and in 1910 became Bath Cash Bakery 1920-1930 was a Furniture Dealer and then in 1950 Broadmead Wireless Company. in 1960 the shop was empty and in 1970 the Tool Factors took over at both 30 and 31.
We know that the shop used to sell bicycles and this is why it is called the Velo Lounge (french for bicycle)
Chapter two

32 Discount Store

Number 32 Moorland Road is currently the discount store. It sells a variety of stationary. My favorite thing they sell are sqishies. From 1890-1940 It was the livingstone hotel. However
in 1970 it was Barton Motors. During 1950 and 1960 there was nothing there.
Walk along the pavement with'The Velo Lounge' on your left and cross the road to continue along Moorland Road.
 
Chapter three

33-34 Children's Hospice Southwest

Currently, numbers 33-34 are occupied as Children's Hospice Southwest. On our visit to Moorland Road we interviewed the shopkeeper who was wearing pyjamas! It has been a few different shops in the past and this is the first charity shop as there are much more charity shops around now. Before it has been a bootmakers from 1900-1970 and a greengrocers in the 1890s. It wasn't until 1930 that they became one shop. It has held a greengrocers and a carpenter in 1893 which changed into a bootmakers in 1900. It stayed a bootmakers and printers until 1940 when it had shifted into one shop and was a boot dealers.

Chapter four

35 Heads Up Barbers

Currently, number 35 Moorland Road is Heads Up Barbers. It became Heads Up Barbers in 2017. in 1890 it was a carpenters and just after 1950 it was a butchers for 10-15 years.Number 35 opened in 1890 and if you need a hair cut this is the place to go.
Chapter five

36 Subway

Number 36 Moorland Road is currently Subway. Subway is a shop which sells sandwiches otherwise known as subs. However, in the 1970s the shop was Speedy Shoe Repair. Before that in 1940 it was a Grocers which sold delicious fresh fruit. During 1893 it was a coachman, in 1910 it was S & D Clerk then Wards Cash Stores and even before that it was a Grocers for two years and then it closed down. It reopened in 1960 becoming a Grocer again then turning into Speedy Shoe Repair then into Subway.

Chapter six

37 magu burgers

Number 37 Moorland rd is a new build called Magu Burgers. It used to be a bakers from 1940-1970 which sold tasty cakes. Magu Burgers is a really big restaurant and sells especially nice burgers and drinks. It opens at 5 and closes at 10pm .

At the turn of the last century this building was a Hairdresser and in the following decades it changed into a tobacconist then in 1920 it became a cash store after that it was a confectioners.then it was a bakers until 1970 . Now its Magu Burgers .
Chapter seven

38 Stokes

Currently, number 38 Moorland Rd is Stokes, a fruit shop selling fresh fruit such as pineapple, strawberries and apples. Before that, Stokes was an Oil and Colourman shop, that sold art supplies. Then, in 1940, Oil and Colourman became a Cox's store, selling apples. The shop then changed back into an Oil and Colourman for 10 more years. It's a great place to buy fresh fruit such as cherries (which I would highly recommend,) and grapes.

Chapter eight

39 Francis DIY

Currently,number 39 Moorland Road is Francis DIY Hardware Store.Francis DIY sells a range of products including padlocks,gardening equipment,key cutting and power tools.Surprisingly,in the 1970` s it was an international tea company,although in 1910 Francis DIY was a small furniture dealer.
Chapter nine

40 Domino's

Previously number 40 Moorland Road was Midland Bank and now is Domino's Pizza shop. You can buy scrumptious pizzas from here! In 1930, it was a grocer but in 1960 it was a ladies Hairdressers! Before this, in 1910, it was a fancy draper!

Chapter ten

41 chemist

The chemist was a hairdresser, before a chemist and it sold hair products like shampoo . it was not used for anything until 1910 when it was a working jeweler but in 1920 it was nothing next it was twerton co-operative and shoe store, in 1940 it was bath co-operative sociatey after that it was a co-op boot and shoe store until 1960 , second to last it was Mack ways hair dresser and now it is a chemist.
Chapter eleven

42 This 'n' That

Number 42 Moorland Road Road is currently This 'n' That. It sells a variety of birthday cards and little toys.Ten years before in 1970,This 'n' That was called mills chemist.Prior to that in 1960' 1950 1930 it was
